Water Utilities Information System (MajIS)

The Water Utilities Information System (MajIS) is a regulatory data platform developed by Tanzania’s Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) to improve oversight of water and sanitation services—particularly onsite sanitation (OSS) and faecal sludge management (FSM). Used by over 85 water and sanitation authorities (WSSAs), the system standardizes data collection, supports business plan submissions, and tracks performance across 12 key regulatory indicators. By standardizing data definitions, enabling real-time reporting, and supporting regulatory compliance across the sanitation service chain, MajIS strengthens EWURA’s ability to monitor delivery, enforce standards, and inform investment decisions.
